Ann Arbor Town
by Leland Woodson

Evening comes swiftly, the dark shadows fall
I leave my friends apartment near State Street
Walk down University Ave. as the snow comes.
Large crystal shaped snowflakes flutter slowly down
There is beauty in this falling snow, I touch the flakes
It is one of those moments that becomes fixed in time
A quiet moment to be treasured for ever and ever
I pass in front of Hill Auditorium with the doors
Open wide and beautiful music floats in the night
A moment that I will always remember as I walk on
Looking up at the barren trees now covered in snow
A moment beautiful locked in my memory for ever

Kiu, Qiu, Zheng, Shao, Shen
Wong, Mei, Wei, Hou, Want, Xiong, Wan
Mazureks play too
A marvelous time
music fills the afternoon
hearts flutter more now
Attend the concert
Talented kids everywhere
Moonlight sonata
Happy Time Jazz, Now
Sarabande in D Minor
A little song, I Spy
Ah, a concert hour
piano pings in the light
peace and good will too
A treasured moment
put your hands together now
smiles fill the warm air
Hour goes past slowly
sun going down, eyes closing
The night hours coming
The evening is done
The concert has finished too
Lasting Memories

And seeing myself so alone and sad
Like a leaf in the wind
I want to cry
I want to die
Of grief CLICK HERE to Listen
How far away I am from the Land where I was born, Intense Nostalgia Invades my mind. I am sitting alone and sad like a leaf on the wind, I want to cry I want to die I miss my home so much. Oh land of the sun I am sighing to see you, Now I am far away and live without life without love. I see myself alone and sad like a leaf on the wind I want to cry I want die I feel so much for my home...

The Picnic
The hours go by; well it is the years now
We meet once again, maybe the last time
Smiles and good wishes for each of us
Just over fifteen years have past last we met
We are moving a little slower now, well some of us
A walker in hand for a few and still others walk on
No, I don’t remember, did she finally graduate
Ah, yes, now with the old photo in hand I knew
Her well and others too, a fine bunch for sure
Now we look for good weather, cheap gas and
Just maybe a face or two that we remember from
In the days so long ago now, but forever Wildcats
Yes, the name sticks as do the good times, forget
All else as we are here and moving still, every day
Best wishes to my fellow RHS graduates 65 years ago

Ode to Under the Lights
“Huh, rah, Hooray rah, score that touch down, ready set go!”
Times gone by and the clock turns as evening fast approaches
Late on Friday night I Remember those many football games
Lights shining bright, the grass field as evening turned to night
Cool air and wind too as the summer season slides into fall
The leaves from the trees, now some gold, some brown falling
There in the end zone and all around. First and ten, huddle up!
“Single wing right, on two, lets go.” “All set now, Hup, Hup!”
(Stabley) hikes the Ball, the quarterback (McCormack) steps back and turns
That guy that lineman (Woodson) goes right, behind the rushing line
Yes, the linebacker makes his charge and bam, down he goes.
We turn the corner now, ahead of the runner (McCleese) down the sideline
Here comes the safety, Woodson sees what he must do, the angle now
Speed get the speed and yes down he goes, first down they say
“Huddle up! Huddle up!” We go on into the night under the lights
Cheer leaders jump and shout, the grass is cold, the end zone is near!
The crowd is alive now, shouting too, screaming in the night, Score!
The hours go by, we score we win! Later coach Sherman in the locker room
Yells! ”Way to go men!” Men, what men? We are just boys who feel
like men there on those nights under the lights, when we win!
Cheerleaders; Klenk, Person, Himanek, Weber, Klein, Litz, Dizkowski and Knight
Line up and yell into the night air. This is what it is all about…shout it out!
“Roseville, Roseville play the game, go on score and win forever…”
